Special Education Services: Lakeview School District

The Lakeview School District is dedicated to providing quality programs and services to our students with disabilities in grades K-12. Through the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process, we ensure a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) for all eligible students. Every student's needs are addressed on a case-by-case basis.

Special Education Population and Compliance

With a total student enrollment of 775, the Lakeview School District currently serves 220 special education students (IEPs, GIEPs and 504 Plans), which is approximately 28% of our student population.

We are proud of our commitment to compliance, demonstrated by achieving 100% compliance in our Cyclical Monitoring conducted by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Special Education (BSE) in 2022. The District also received commendations for the strong implementation of co-teaching and inclusive practices.

Our Inclusive Programs and Staffing

Lakeview strives to educate all special education students in their district of residence, fostering inclusionary practices and effective teaching strategies across all our buildings. We are able to educate most special education students within the district, with placements outside the district reserved for students whose unique needs cannot be appropriately met in their neighborhood school, as determined by the IEP Team.

Parent Partnership

Parents are vital partners in the education process, and we are proud of the high level of parent participation in IEP meetings. Parents of special needs children in the Lakeview School District have consistently expressed satisfaction with the academic programs and services, praising the progress their children have made.

We are committed to further enhancing parent engagement and have posted numerous resources and training announcements on the Special Education Webpage. We value the well-established, positive relationships between our teachers, parents, educational providers, and agencies.
