Chincoteague Bay Field Station
After completing an intensive study of marine ecosystems, Lakeview 6th grade students have the opportunity to travel to the Chincoteague Bay Field Station in Virginia to continue to discover more about this area. The students prepare for the trip by completing a 5 month study on animals, plants and other information that will be covered during the experience. Students participate in a shark or squid dissection and other lab activities. They also go into the field to examine the biodiversity of the salt marsh, sand dune ecology, water test the salt water, and explore the intertidal zone. Lakeview is able to participate in this event as they travel with gifted programs from several local districts.
