Mrs. Judy DeAugustino Hines, Honorary Sailor
Mrs. Judy DeAugustino Hines graduated from Mercer High School in 1967 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1970. She earned a Master’s in Environmental Education from Slippery Rock University and Idaho University for Secondary Health and Physical Education. Judy taught at the Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines, and the Reynolds School District. She also worked as a physical therapist at Polk Center. Mrs. Hines began her career at Lakeview in 1974 as a physical education teacher. While at Lakeview, she was a track and field assistant coach and volleyball coach. She was instrumental in the elementary Hershey Track and Field Program, sending many young students to compete at the state level. Students remember Mrs. Hines for “shower ball”, cross-country skiing, the nature trail, “jump the snake”, learning to dance, the Native American and Early English settler games like walking on stilts, and Field Day activities. She was a strong advocate for family engagement after school. While at Oakview, she also started a “Lunch Bunch'' program and worked in partnership with Mercer County Behavioral Health for 15 years. In addition, she also collaborated with Dr. Runkle to develop an adaptive gym class. Mrs. Hines was awarded a WFMJ Class Act Award for excellence in the classroom.
Mrs. Judy Hines resides in Mercer with her husband Larry. They have two daughters, Mary Margaret and Ann Marie, as well as four grandchildren.
Mrs. Susan Fletcher Kepner, 1964 graduate of Lakeview High School
Mrs. Susan Fletcher Kepner graduated from Lakeview High School in 1964. While at Lakeview, she participated in Student Council, AFS, Tri High Y, GAA, National Honor Society, and the Lakeview Band. She also represented Lakeview as an American Field Service student traveling to Germany and residing with a family for six weeks the summer before her senior year.
Susan continued her education at Slippery Rock University earning a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Special Education, completing her dual certification in just three years. She then went on to obtain her Master's Degree at Slippery Rock University for certification as a Reading Specialist. She started her career at Lakeview in 1967 in the high school, but moved to the middle school when it was created in 1981. Throughout her career at Lakeview, Susan taught learning support, Title I Reading, and eighth grade English. She led the Middle School Student Council, served on the Middle School Curriculum Council, and was involved in many extracurricular activities to assist middle school students. Mrs. Kepner was known for her sense of humor to connect with students. In addition to her career in education, she worked tirelessly beside her husband, Dave, on their family farm. Kepner's Farm Market is a staple in the Lakeview Community.
Susan has supported Lakeview Athletics for many decades, watching her children, grandchildren, and students play. She now watches the children of former students participate in Lakeview sports. After retiring from Lakeview in 2001, Susan became an active member and supporter of the Lakeview Area Public Library, continuing to share her love of literacy with the community.
Mrs. Susan Kepner is the proud mother of Molly Kepner Foster and Nate Kepner; and the proud grandmother of Reed Foster, Zoe Kepner, and Delaney Kepner.
