  • Mary Ann Craig, D.M.E-1965 Graduate of Lakeview High School

    Mary Ann Craig, D.M.E.,  was a 1965 graduate of Lakeview High School.  Dr. Craig received her Doctor of Music Education (1981) and Master of Music Education (1970) degrees from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. She is a 1969 graduate of Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory with a B.M.E. degree. Dr. Craig taught for eight years in the Seneca Valley Schools in Western Pennsylvania and for one year at Wollongong Conservatorium of Music and Goulburn College of Advanced Education in Australia. After teaching for several years at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York, she accepted the position of Director of Bands at Montclair State University in New Jersey.

    Dr. Craig is Professor Emerita and retired Director of Bands at Montclair State University in New Jersey.  The Montclair State University Symphonic Band more than tripled in size during the ten years Dr. Craig was Director of Bands at the university.  She is Past President of the International Tuba-Euphonium Association, an organization of 2,000 members from over forty countries. As a conductor Dr. Craig has conducted the leading professional, military, and conservatory concert bands in Russia, Ukraine, and Hungary. Dr. Craig has been interviewed for radio and television broadcasts of the People’s National Radio of Russia and the British Broadcasting Company. She was awarded the title of Honored Professor of Moscow State University of Culture and Arts in 2003 and had the rare opportunity to present both conducting and low brass master classes at the famed St. Petersburg Conservatory in Russia.

    As a euphonium soloist and low brass clinician, Dr. Craig has appeared throughout the United States, Japan, Europe, Australia, and Canada. She has released two solo euphonium recordings, Out on a Limb, and Mary Ann Craig, Euphonium, as well as a CD, Spectraphonics, with her Colonial Tuba Quartet.  In 1970 Dr. Craig became the first euphonium player to be awarded the coveted Performer's Certificate from Indiana University. She is featured in the International Tuba-Euphonium Association Journal (Fall 2020) and in Anne Gray’s book, Women in Classical Music.

    In 2006 Dr. Craig was the first female invited to serve as Guest Conductor of the Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Band Festival in the festival's 59-year history. She served as the New Jersey State Chair for the College Band Directors National Association and the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors. Dr. Craig has served on the Board of Directors of the International Women's Brass Conference and as Chair for the Society for Music Teacher Education-Eastern Division.

    In 2009 Dr. Craig retired and moved back to her native Western Pennsylvania where she became very involved with the Pittsburgh Symphony Association serving as President of the Pittsburgh Symphony Association. She continues to serve on the Board in various positions. In 2012 Dr. Craig was awarded the Baldwin-Wallace University Conservatory of Music Outstanding Alumna Achievement recipient of the year. Most recently, she chaired a Pittsburgh city-wide project to raise $200,000 for a new Steinway concert grand for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. 

    When she was in high school, her father told her, “If you ever become well-known, don’t say that you are from Pittsburgh, PA, but always say that you are from Sandy Lake, PA.” I have never forgotten that, and whenever I am asked during my international tours and performances, I always reply, “Sandy Lake, Pennsylvania.” She wouldn’t trade where she grew up for anything.

    Mr. Paul C. Doyle-1954 Graduate of Stoneboro High School

    Mr. Paul C. Doyle was a member of the last class of Stoneboro High School, graduating as the 1954 salutatorian.  During his years at Stoneboro High School, he played varsity basketball and won the Mercer County Voice of Democracy Contest.  He was the head lifeguard at Stoneboro Lake during the summers. Mr. Doyle attended Bucknell University on an academic scholarship and then transferred to the University of Florida to be closer to family.  He went on to graduate from the University of Tampa in 1958.  Mr. Doyle furthered his education at Harvard Law School where he graduated in 1961.  The prestigious Jacksonville Law Firm of Jennings, Watts, Clarke, and Hamilton is where Mr. Doyle started his career in public service.  He became a partner in this firm in 1967.   Paul Doyle is known for consistently improving the civil justice system in Florida where he advocated for the poor and disadvantaged. He led the staff of the Florida Bar Foundation in advocating for justice for the poor.  When he retired in June 2009, the Florida Legal Services building in Tallahassee was renamed the Paul Doyle Justice Center for his dedication to public service.  He married Shirley Foster in 1957 and they have two daughters, Ami and Lori Ann.

    Ms. Elaine L. Wilson-1959 Graduate of Lakeview High School

    Ms. Elaine L. Wilson was a 1959 graduate of Lakeview High School.  She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1964 with a degree in Art Education.  She went on to further her education at Pennsylvania State University, earning a masters degree in Teaching and Curriculum then Temple University for a certification in Supervision and Administration.  Ms. Wilson is a former art educator, K-12 Art Supervising Administrator, and was honored as a Pennyslvania Outstanding Art Educator.  She is the founder and past Executive Director of the Susquehanna Art Museum in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  Elaine has authored and published 18 non-fiction books and is known internationally for her watercolor paintings.  In 1988 and 1991, Ms. Wilson coordinated the founding of the first two English language private schools in the USSR as an American and is still actively involved with the schools.  She has been a guest lecturer at the American Cultural Center at the US Embassy in Moscow.  Along with her many professional accomplishments, she is a ruling elder at the Market Square Presybterian Church.  Ms. Wilson resides in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania.

    Bernie Davis-Honorary Sailor

    Mr. Bernie Davis began his teaching career at Lakeview High School in September of 1976 Prior to coming to Lakeview, he was a 1971 graduate of Hopewell High School and 1975 graduate of Geneva College.  He participated in both football and track at both schools.  Mr. Davis is known for his loyalty to Lakeview and for putting academic excellence first as a biology teacher.  He coached football and track for many years and has been a substitute teacher in the district since his retirement in 2011.  Outside of school, Bernie was a member of the Sandy Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Penn State Extension Board, Sandy Lake Wesleyan Church board member and Sunday School teacher, and coach.  Bernie and his wife Chris are the proud parents of Lakeview graduates Carrie, Anna, and Sarah and have seven grandchildren.
