  • Second Lieutenant Zachariah R. Miller-1998 Graduate of Lakeview High School
    Second Lieutenant Zachariah R. “Zac” Miller was the 1998 valedictorian of Lakeview High School.  While at Lakeview, Zac participated in Student Council, Students for Charity, concert band, football, basketball, and track.  He was a dual enrollment student at Grove City College during his years at Lakeview and was also selected to attend the PA Governor’s School for the Sciences in 1997.  He was a member of the Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church where he served as Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, a youth group leader, and was a member of the youth group.  An honors graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Mr. Miller earned a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and computer science and was named West Point's top graduate in math, computer science, and the basic sciences.  At graduation, he was also commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army and branched Infantry. Zac volunteered for Special Olympics and the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program while at West Point. He graduated from the U.S. Army Airborne School in Fort Benning, served as a platoon leader for an Air Defense Artillery unit in Germany, and completed an internship in Azerbaijan where he worked with refugee children and counseled local citizens concerning human-rights abuse.  Zac was named a Truman Scholar in 2001 and was also the recipient of a prestigious Rhodes Scholarship. Second Lieutenant Zachariah Miller passed away on July 1, 2002 while on a land navigation exercise in Fort Benning, Georgia.

    Mr. Henry A. Pearce Jr.-1949 Graduate of Stoneboro High School
    Mr. Henry A. Pearce Jr. was a 1949 graduate of Stoneboro High School.  He graduated from Grove City College in 1953 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Mr. Pearce held a variety of engineering and management positions in the Medium Power Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric where he worked for 32 years.  He was awarded several patents for products and processes in the design and manufacturing of power transformers. Mr. Pearce most notably received an international patent for Wecasol, the product that replaced carcinogenic PCB’s in industrial applications.  As a community member, he was a member and president of the Stoneboro Borough Council, Chairman of the Borough’s Centennial Committee, and served on the Sanitation District Board. Mr. Pearce was active in the Stoneboro Presbyterian Church, where he served as a longtime elder.  He served on the Board of Directors of the Great Stoneboro Fair and as the fair secretary for nearly a decade. As a former president of the Lakeview Board of Education, Mr. Pearce discharged his duties with great dedication and satisfaction. He was the president of the Board during the planning of and groundbreaking for Oakview Elementary School and the expansion of the high school building.  Under his Board presidency, Mr. Pearce aided in the establishment of the football program at Lakeview High School. He was married to Roberta McClearn Pearce and they had three children, Henry, Diane, and Robert.

    Mr. Audley W. Olson-1948 Graduate of Stoneboro High School
    Mr. Audley W. Olson was a 1948 graduate of Stoneboro High School, where he was the president of his class.  He furthered his education at Slippery Rock (College) University. From 1952-1954, Mr. Olson served as a corporal with the United States Army and the Army Medical Services Department.   He received a Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal while serving our country. Mr. Olson began his teaching career as a math teacher in the Lakeview School District in 1954.  During his 44 years at Lakeview, he was a math teacher, assistant principal, and principal. After retirement, he returned to substitute teach until 2009. Mr. Olson is a very active member of the Lakeview Church of God where he has served as treasurer, trustee, song leader and Sunday school teacher for over 50 years.  He was the past President of the Lakeview PTA and Sandy Lake Township’s first wage tax collector. Mr. Olson is married to Anna Lou Olson and they have two children, Beth and Dean.

    Dr. Dennis C. Turner-1966 Graduate of Stoneboro High School
    Dr. Dennis C. Turner was a 1966 co-valedictorian of Lakeview High School.  He went on to graduate from San Diego State University in 1970 then earned his Doctor of Science degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health in 1974.  Dr. Turner founded and is the director of The Institute for Applied Ethology and Animal Psychology, I.E.A.P., in 1991. The institute focuses on the behavior of domestic animals, particularly cats and dogs, and the human-companion animal relationships and their consequences for the health and wellbeing of both relationship partners.  Dr. Turner is a private faculty member at the University of Zurich where his primary teaching responsibility focuses on companion animal behavior. He has also served as the Chief Advisory for the Cantonal Veterinary Hospital (Zurich), Trustee and Chair of the Scientific Advisory Panel: World Society for the Protection of Animals (London), President of the International Association of Human-Animal Interaction Organization, and various capacities with several international organizations for his pet behavior expertise.  Dr. Turner is also an author and frequently writes articles for specialty journals. He resides in Switzerland with his wife, Heidi.

    Honorary Sailor Inductee: Mrs. Edith Myers
    Mrs. Edith Myers served as the Family and Consumer Science teacher in the Lakeview School District for 38 years.  She is a 1942 graduate of the Linesville-Conneaut School District and continued her education at Indiana State Teachers College where she earned a degree in Home Economics.  She later attended Penn State University where she earned a Masters of Education degree in 1958. Mrs. Myers began her career in the Home Ec House at the Stoneboro School where she was given the task of managing the cafeteria for the entire school.  She organized a food drive for families to send in their garden surplus and then taught her students the process of canning so they would have extra supplies for the upcoming year. Mrs. Myers oversaw a nursery school for local preschoolers, was the unofficial school photographer, advised the Future Homemakers of America Club, and directed the Junior and Senior Class Plays.  She took students to the PA Farm Show in Harrisburg for competitions and was awarded first prize five times. Mrs. Myers was a member of Pi Lambda Theta (Academic Honor Society at Penn State), Delta Kappa Gamma (International Honors Society for outstanding women educators), chairman of the PA Home Economics Association and State Convention, and Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.  She served on the Mercer County Children’s Aid Society for 30 years and was named their Volunteer of the Year twice. She can still be found judging local fairs in several counties throughout Pennsylvania. She was married to Leon Myers and they traveled to every Penn State football game, home or away, for 44 years.
